Description:
Scope of Responsibilities:
Plans, organizes and conducts large projects. Develops and applies advanced engineering theories, methods, and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex technical problems. Conducts investigations or tests of considerable complexity pertaining to the development of products, exploration of equipment, product, and/or process problems. Reviews project progress and evaluates results; recommends corrections to ensure project objectives. Specifies the manpower, equipment, materials, and supplies required for completion and implementation of technical projects. May evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services. Recommends revision of specifications when indicated. Formulates or assists in formulating engineering policies and procedures. Responsible for applying engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and using advanced engineering techniques, modifying and extending theories, concepts, practices , and disciplines. Independently makes decisions on engineering problems and methods to effectively achieve objectives set by the department. Recognized as a specialist within an engineering discipline.
Skills Specific Responsibilities:
May act as an individual contributor and member of project teams, or have formal leadership responsibility for a product development project, achieving results by directing others or thru own actions.
1.Plans, develops, coordinates and directs product development projects with many complex features.
2.Works on complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures, resulting in the development of refined equipment, materials, processes, products, and/or scientific methods.
3.Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of complex projects. Provide problem identification and solution support from the concept stage of new product development to production manufacturing.
4.Assess the soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, projects and equipment.
5.Develops solutions to complex problems requiring regular use of ingenuity, creativity and technical expertise.
6.May perform as a staff advisor/consultant for a technical specialty.
7.Interface with internal and external contacts to communicate and evaluate technical information as it relates to the area of specialization.
8.Other duties as assigned.
Experience: 8 or more years experience in the mechanical design and development of high volume consumer products; must have an understanding of the design rules for plastic injection molding and metal forming, as well as for DFM/A; proficiency in use of solids modeling MCAD system (NX) is required.
Capabilities: Must have ability to apply creativity, sound engineering principles, and hands-on execution to effectively solve problems; ability to construct or modify hardware parts or models with some proficiency in the use of simple hand tools also valuable.
Education Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline gained through a formal four-to-five year college program. Master's degree desirable.
