Description:
The candidate will occupy a mechanical engineering and leadership role in the assessment of proposed product and feature concepts. The primary focus will be in advanced development of technologies and design approaches that may be required to realize (or rule out) the next generation of product proposals. The candidate will bring mechanical expertise to these activities alongside peers in acoustics, electrical, software, user interface, industrial design, and manufacturing disciplines. As a contributor in this domain of advanced development, the candidate must possess the following specific qualities:
-Ability to assess technical risks and project risks
-Ability to identify appropriate risk mitigation approaches (as tangible tasks)
-Ability to apply fresh thinking and creative solutions
-Ability to balance creativity with reality (such that creativity is not smothered but concepts are manufacturable with reasonable commercial approaches)
-Ability to prescribe appropriate engineering analysis and predictive techniques to solve engineering problems
-Ability to comprehend the technical hurdles faced by peer contributors in acoustics, electronics, user interface, industrial design, and manufacturing
-Ability to communicate ideas and solutions in a convincing, fact based manner
-Ability to work in a team environment where mechanical optimization may need to concede to optimization of other critical parameters
-Ability to direct the activities of a small team in these endeavors
Skills In addition to the qualities listed above, the candidate will need to possess the following critical skills:
-A solid, working understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, particularly in structural and thermal topics
-A track record in the development of commercial products where design rules for plastics injection molding, metal forming, DFM/DFA, and high volume manufacturing would have been mastered
-Proficiency in the use of solid modeling CAD tools with preference for experience with the UG-NX series of tools (specific preference for NX-5/6 experience)
-Working knowledge of cost effective prototyping and physical concept construction techniques
Education Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering gained through a formal four to five year college program. Master’s degree desirable.
